CrossGuard Extended Stop Arm — a patented, impact-resistant safety device for school buses that provides a physical and visual deterrent to discourage drivers from illegally passing stopped buses.

⛉ Why It Matters

Protecting Students Where It Matters Most

Every day in the United States, thousands of drivers illegally pass stopped school buses. These violations occur during the most vulnerable time in the school transportation process — at the very moment students are entering or leaving the bus.

CrossGuard™ enhances the visibility and extends the safety zone of the stopped bus into the traffic lane, helping approaching drivers recognize the need to stop.   CrossGuard™ reinforces the safety perimeter around the loading area.

Product Overview

How CrossGuard Works

The CrossGuard Extended Stop Arm extends outward to create a prominent physical and visual deterrent, discouraging vehicles from illegally passing stopped school buses. Engineered for durability, the arm is designed to withstand impact from vehicles traveling at significant speed and remain attached if struck.  CrossGuard reduces the risk of component detachment.

The resilient design is patented under US12090919B2 and CA3204531A1 and requires no scheduled maintenance.

With a rapid 3-second deployment and retraction time, CrossGuard is easy for bus drivers to use in real-world conditions—extending quickly when needed and clearing just as efficiently.

Operations Sequence

01

Driver triggers deployment switch as bus stops

02

Alternating lights on Stop Sign and Light Bar activate

03

Arm deploys to 90° within 3 seconds — extends 6.5ft from bus

04

Adjacent lane has visual and audio warning to deter illegal passing

05

Driver triggers retract — arm returns and locks in 3 seconds

06

Lights remain active 2 seconds after retracting
