How CrossGuard Works
The CrossGuard Extended Stop Arm extends outward to create a prominent physical and visual deterrent, discouraging vehicles from illegally passing stopped school buses. Engineered for durability, the arm is designed to withstand impact from vehicles traveling at significant speed and remain attached if struck. CrossGuard reduces the risk of component detachment.
The resilient design is patented under US12090919B2 and CA3204531A1 and requires no scheduled maintenance.
With a rapid 3-second deployment and retraction time, CrossGuard is easy for bus drivers to use in real-world conditions—extending quickly when needed and clearing just as efficiently.
Operations Sequence
Driver triggers deployment switch as bus stops
Alternating lights on Stop Sign and Light Bar activate
Arm deploys to 90° within 3 seconds — extends 6.5ft from bus
Adjacent lane has visual and audio warning to deter illegal passing
Driver triggers retract — arm returns and locks in 3 seconds
